New London Recreation is offering vacation camps/special events during the December and April school vacations. Arts and Crafts, field trips, group games, board games, sports, and other activities will be offered throughout the week for participants. Limited space.

Jump into the NESS Mobile Classroom to use microscopes and other specialized equipment to study the local wildlife. With Earth Day around the corner, adventure to Fort Trumbull and join us in a park-wide clean up! There’s so much we can dive into, we can’t wait to get started!
Monday - Microscopic Mysteries (Mobile Classroom & Fort Trumbull?)
Journey into the watery world of plankton! These microscopic plants and animals are the base of our food chain, and we couldn’t live without them! Take a sample of the Thames River to see these microscopic mysteries up close. Use a microscope to count and identify different plankton, build your own model, and put your design to the test!
Tuesday - Amazing Adaptations
Plants and animals come in all shapes and sizes! From the ginormous blue whale to the tiny crab, they all have certain characteristics that help them survive. Come along and investigate these special adaptations with games and preserved specimens. Take inspiration from nature and create a design that uses those superpowers to make our lives better!
Wednesday - Deep Sea Exploration (Mobile Classroom & Fort Trumbull?)
Let’s peer into the world below! Come adventure to the deep sea to witness some of the spectacular changes that happen in the great depths. Deep sea explorers use remotely operated vehicles to collect samples and observe the life below, try your hand at driving an ROV off of the fishing pier!
Thursday - The Science of Sailing
Are you ready to harness the energy of the wind and race to victory? Team up with classmates to design and build your own land sailor - a wind-powered machine made from sails, PVC frames, and wheels. Get creative as you experiment with different sail shapes, frame designs, and wheel placements to make your land sailor as fast as possible. Calculate the speed as you go, and redesign to achieve the fastest pace for your team. Let the ultimate land sailing showdown begin!
Friday - Green Guardians Unite! (Mobile Classroom & Fort Trumbull?)
Have you ever seen trash on the beach and wonder how it got there? Discover how marine debris impacts the environment as you experiment with buoyancy and design a model ocean with circular currents. Become a Green Guardian as we adventure to Fort Trumbull for a marine debris clean-up!
