April Vacation-April 14-18Spring is here and NESS is bringing the science challenges! Using experiments, art, and games we’ll dive into different topics of science which may include experimenting with different ingredients to create the ultimate bubble solution, imagining a new creature and drawing it or modeling it with clay, exploring what echolocation is by playing a game, and more! 8:00 AM-4:00 PM

Monday Simple Machines: Harness the power of simple machines through hands-on challenges designed to spark curiosity and teamwork. Using levers, inclined planes, and more, experiment with how these machines make work easier, applying their discoveries to fun, interactive tasks, like lifting a heavy cage to rescue animals or designing and operating your very own Rube Goldberg machine.
Tuesday Animal Behavior: Dive into the fascinating world of animal movement and migration! Examine various animal adaptations like how creatures can travel such vast distances. Explore how fish school for safety and use biomimicry to design your very own movement-inspired inventions.
Wednesday Water Quality: Dip into the science of ocean health and investigate what makes water clean and how pollution impacts marine ecosystems. Explore the chemistry of ocean water, the movement of pollutants through currents, and the challenges of keeping our seas healthy. Get ready for a day of exploration that will inspire you to think critically about water quality and your role in preserving our blue planet!
Thursday Buoyancy: Unravel the wonders of buoyancy by testing different objects in water to explore the concepts of floating, sinking, and “flinking” – just like how some ocean animals stay perfectly balanced in the water. Put on your hard hat and become a naval architect! Experiment with shapes and materials to design and build a boat. Can you withstand the stormy seas?
Friday Pirates: Set sail on a hands-on journey into the science of the sea. Design and build a sailboat and experiment with sails and keels, seeing how they affect movement and stability. Also learn the art of tying sailor’s knots – just like real pirates of the past. Ahoy explorers!
